Our History
Yorkville Memorials has been under the ownership of the Trzepacz family for 70 years. Gina Trzepacz-Timpano, current owner and manager, knew for a long time that she wanted to carry on the family business started by her grandfather.
In 1942, Gina’s grandfather, John Trzepacz went to work for John A. Cordiner Monument Works located then at 32 New Hartford Street in New York Mills. While working for Mr. Cordiner, John mastered his craft of hand-carving and lettering of monuments and markers in 7 years. On September 26th, 1949, he founded Yorkville Memorials and built a display platform in the lot next to his home on Campbell Avenue in Yorkville. The very next month, he received his first shipment of granite monuments shortly after, purchased his first business vehicle, a 1950 Studebaker ½ ton truck.
After 5 years in the original location, John and his wife Stella purchased property at 1309 Champlin Avenue in Yorkville. Construction began on the current office in 1959 and was completed the following year. John purchased all new engraving equipment and moved his monuments to the new location where the business has remained to the present day. As the business grew in the 1960s, a second truck was purchased; this time a 1964 one-ton Studebaker which was used for many trips back and forth to Vermont for markers, monuments and supplies.
Upon retirement in 1975, John passed the business to his son Stanley who had been an apprentice with his father since 1959. Together with his brothers Gene (Gina’s father) and James, they worked very hard to build Yorkville Memorials into a thriving local business. As Stanley grew the business, he purchased a letter stencil machine and a new truck and monument hauler which helped improve production. As a child, Gina enjoyed working alongside her father and brother in the family business and had her early sights set on one day taking over the business. She fulfilled her childhood dream in May of 2009 when she took over the business following the retirement of her uncle.
Today, Yorkville Memorials continues to provide high-quality monuments and markers but now, under Gina’s leadership, offers expanded services including pre-planning, monument cleaning and flower planting services.
